Los Angeles, San Francisco, Berkeley, New York–These photos are just a few things I’ve seen lately. My life has really been enriched by the acquisition of a new pocket-sized camera. I haven’t always been one to take a lot of snapshots. Photography has been more like painting to me–an isolated and constructed event. I’m often afraid that over-documenting will get in the way of experiencing any given moment–I’m afraid of my motives. For example–being a tourist and only seeing new places through your viewfinder or digital screen so that you can report back.

But now I have this little camera–and I’ve been sort of watching the world through it, and I’ve been shaping my world through it– rewriting my history in a way. Because I get to look back and see a sort of based-on-reality fiction of my travels. And I’ve always been a lover of stories. Stories leave out the banal, maybe they stretch the truth a little, or a lot. So now I find myself taking more snapshots, and constructing them too–to share with you and to remember things, but also to forget them.
